I was born into a family of very tall and thin people. At the age of 14, I came to understand that my 5'3" height would never match my sister's at 5'9", and since I couldn't get any taller, my only other option was to make myself skinnier. And so I started dieting, and like many teenage girls, it did not take long for me to develop an eating disorder. I became consumed with the task of manipulating my weight, and became deeply unhappy with my body and myself. For years I tried every diet under the sun that would let me eat all the ice cream and cookies that I wanted and still lose weight, but none of them worked, and my weight crept up higher and higher. After years of counting calories, portions, and carbs, and exercising on and off to try and lose weight once and for all, I finally had enough. I was having migraine headaches, bloating, and constipation on a daily basis, and I was beginning to develop allergies to all sorts of things. I realized that I needed a different approach. I wanted so badly to lose weight, feel good in my body, and be able to enjoy food without constantly feeling guilty, but didn't know where to start.
On the advice of a friend, I decided to visit a health coach. She was warm and understanding, and let me know that change began with understanding. She said that when I understood what my body needed to function properly, that I would be able to make the right choices and still be able to enjoy eating. She let me know that diets don't work, and that every time I tried a new diet that it just made me feel worse about myself, which was true! She also told me that when I ate healthy foods that I would lose weight naturally without having to starve myself, and that eating well was the very best way to love myself. I didn't know how it would all work, but I did know that I was out of answers and that I desperately wanted to be happy, inside and out.
So I took a leap of faith and enrolled in her Health Coaching program. I learned to relax and enjoy eating for the first time in years, and to buy healthy foods, not because they were low in calories, but because they were high in nutrients! Month after month the pounds began to disappear, the headaches and digestive issues improved, and I was able to actually enjoy nourishing my body. The better I ate, the better I felt, the better I looked! I was dumfounded how differently I felt about food, my body, and myself. After working with her for 6 months I decided that I wanted to help others have the same incredible experience of self-love and self-care, and decided to continue my education in nutrition. I had discovered true health and happiness, and wanted others to do the same.
I attended Oklahoma State University and earned my Masters of Science in Nutrition. After a few years of helping clients make a transition to lasting health and happiness through good information and adopting a healthy lifestyle, I decided to expand my knowledge of nutrition with the same Health Coaching program that my health coach had attended. I enrolled in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition's Holistic Health Coaching Program, am a Board Certified Holistic Health Coach, and am member of the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP).
My life changed entirely when I learned how to really love myself through the choices I made, and for over 20 years I have been able to help my clients do the very same thing.
I currently have a monthly column, called Nutritious & Delicious, published monthly in Sophie Magazine and distributed throughout Western North Carolina.
I have also written a weekly nutrition column for the Yancey County News, and have had articles and recipes published in Natural Awakenings.
From 2000 to 2002 I hosted the holistic health radio program "Lose the Weight Forever" in South Florida, assisted in the research and development of several lines of neutraceuticals, and taught numerous workshops and natural foods cooking classes throughout the Southeast. During this time period, I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Donna Gates, author of The Body Ecology Diet, developer of The Body Ecology System of Health & Healing, and pioneer in the area of cultured foods, and also worked and taught cooking classes with macrobiotic specialist and natural foods chef, Jan London, author of Coconut Cuisine featuring Stevia.

I am the Health Coach for Advanced Marketing International, a company that sells Amercian-Made waterless cookware under the brand names: Kitchen Craft International, Lustre Craft and Healthy Gourmet. They are the only Green-Certified waterless cookware company in the country and sell a product that can directly contribute to their customer's health in a positive way. I provide health and nutrition information on their website, consult on recipes and make public appearances for them. Every year I give numerous public appearances, nutrition seminars and radio interviews all over the Southeast.
I am a member of the well-known health referral website "Primal Docs" as a Preferred Healthcare Practitioner.
As a member of Slow Food USA, The Weston A. Price Foundation, and the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP), I educate my clients about the importance of Quality over Quantity, and help them in finding the highest quality, freshest foods available from local and organic sources. What is good for our local economies, our environment, and the future of our planet is also what is good for our bodies and souls!
